Anita AllenKeynote Lecture by Professor Anita L. Allen:
"Legal Embodiments of Unconditional Love - On Loving the Unborn"

Henry R. Silverman Professor of Law and Professor of Philosophy at University of Pennsylvania’s Carey Law School

Abstract: The United States now stands apart from other American countries, notably Canada and  Mexico, in which permissive abortions rights are deemed protected by the national constitution. The U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 Dobbs decision placed abortion law in the hands of 50 diverse state legislatures.  Yet the equal citizenship and gender equality of women hinges on access to meaningful  reproductive choices.  Toward better understanding ongoing popular objections to abortion rights, this multidisciplinary lecture will explore the moral belief that pregnant women do—and  should—love their future offspring, even unconditionally, with implications for the law.
