Faye Woodman began her career at the Tax Policy Branch of the Department of Finance in Ottawa, where she played a key role in fending off the introduction of direct income splitting (joint filing) in Canadian income taxation, and later, as a result of her experiences there, authored some of the early papers on the impact of the tax system on women. Prof. Woodman teaches and publishes in the area of taxation, trusts, and pensions. She works with the Dalhousie Faculty Association on pension issues and is vice-chair of the Dalhousie Pension Advisory Committee.
