Martha Jackman, B.A. (Queen’s), LL.B. (Toronto), LL.M. (Yale), is a professor of constitutional law in the French Common Law Program at the University of Ottawa and the Co-chair of the National Association of Women and the Law. She publishes primarily in the areas of socio-economic rights, equality and the Charter and has acted as legal counsel in a number of Charter test cases, most recently on behalf of the Charter Committee Coalition in Tanudjaja. She is a former co-editor of the Canadian Journal of Women and the Law; a past member of the Equality Rights Panel of the Court Challenges Program of Canada; and a former member of the Board of Directors and National Legal Committee of LEAF. In 2007, she received the Law Society of Upper Canada Medal for her contributions to the profession. In 2015 she was awarded the Canadian Bar Association’s Touchstone Award and, in 2017, she was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
