Dr. Gugl received her Master's degree in economics in 1998 from Karl-Franzensuniversitaet Graz, Graz, Austria and her Ph.D. in economics in 2004 from Rice University, Houston, Texas. Her research focus is Economics of the Family, which explains how couples make decisions about their children and about themselves and assesses the effects of policies targeted towards the family on intrafamily distribution. Dr. Gugl has focused a series of papers on the effects of joint versus individual taxation on the welfare of wives. The latest in this series, "Income Splitting, Specialization, and Intrafamily Distribution," is forthcoming in the Canadian Journal of Economics.
